TRIBUTE TO RICHARD COLE from John Singleton
August 4, 2006
Dear All
We are sad to inform you that our dear friend Richard Cole, Director of the Nehemiah Project in Freetown, died in the early hours of Thursday morning. It is a sad time for all who have known and loved him.
Richard risked his life many times during the war standing for justice at a time when the country was in chaos. He rescued many child soldiers and other children affected by the war from the hands of evil men.
The work in Freetown is unfinished and we have not yet seen all that we want to see yet for that community or the nation. Some of the ex-child soldiers are grown now, some at university others doing well in employment, yet there is still more to be done. Let us expect those same young men and women to stand on the shoulders of their ‘dad’ and continue to pursue the dream that their nation be re-established fully.
We ask that you stand with us for PJ (Richard’s son) and the hundreds of children and young people who knew him as their father, that they will know God’s comfort and grace at this sad time.
We know that Richard’s influence is far reaching in many nations, many people are ready to speak of the impact Richard’s love and testimony had on them. We thank God for his life and for having the privilege of serving with him.
With warm regards
Avril McIntyre
